Cloud Removal from Satellite Images Using a Deep Learning Model with the Cloud-Matting Method

Clouds seriously limit the application of optical remote sensing images. In this paper, we remove clouds from satellite images using a novel method that considers ground surface reflections and cloud top as linear mixture image elements perspective superposition. We use two-step convolutional neural network to extract transparency information then recover thin regions. Given poor balance generated samples, paper also improves binary Tversky loss function applies it on multi-classification tasks. The model was validated simulated dataset ALCD dataset, respectively. results show outperformed other control group experiments in detection removal. better locates with matting, which is built based detection. addition, successfully recovers region when thick coexist, does not damage original image’s information.
